Iced Watermelon Green Tea Refresher
Watermelon Green Tea is the delicious drink you need in your life. Perfect for an outdoor gathering on a hot summer day, it’s made with just four simple ingredients (including water) and is a cinch to make!

I know it’s still winter, but I’m already starting to dream of warmer weather. I know I’ve also been known to say I hate hot weather, but I’m also tired of having cold toes. Grass is always greener I guess lol.
While this watermelon green tea isn’t exactly going to warm me up, it does get me excited about the coming spring and summer seasons. It’s made with just green tea, sweet watermelon, agave nectar, and water. You can use other sweeteners if you like, but I found I like agave the best.
No matter what season you make this in, your taste buds will definitely be happy. Let’s make it!
Ingredient Notes
Watermelon Green Tea Refresher
- Green tea bags – You’ll want to make sure to use plain high quality green tea bags that are not flavored, such as Fraser Tea brand. Alternatively, you can brew tea with loose green tea leaves using a steeper such as a tea ball. Use approximately one teaspoon of loose leaf tea to replace one teabag.
- Watermelon – You don’t have to use seedless watermelon, it’s okay to blend the seeds!
- Agave nectar – This is a natural sweetener derived from the agave plant, which is mainly found in Mexico. It has a mild, caramelly flavor and can be used as an alternative to sugar, honey, or maple syrup.
- Water – Filtered water is always best for any homemade drink, as it really does affect the flavor. I use an Alexapure water filtration system, which works on gravity and filters 99%+ of all contaminants found in tap water.
That’s it! Green tea lends itself so well to summer fruits (like in this Peach Iced Green Tea!). But watermelon is my new favorite! The natural watermelon flavor balances the earthiness of the green tea perfectly.
If you are looking to have a drink with no added sugar, feel free to skip the sugar entirely and simply rely on the watermelon to sweeten your tea. It will be less sweet of course, but will still be a delicious + refreshing drink!
How to make this Watermelon Green Tea Recipe
Since we are making iced tea, we need to make extra strong tea! I use two tea bags per cup of boiling water. You want to use a higher tea-to-water ratio rather than steeping longer to avoid bitter tea.
Steep tea bags in hot water for 3 minutes.
Add the agave and stir. Set aside so the tea can cool while you make the watermelon juice.
Add watermelon chunks to a blender and blend until smooth. You shouldn’t need to add any water, but if you are having any trouble getting it to blend, you can add 1/4 cup at a time to get it going.
Use a fine mesh sieve to strain out the watermelon pulp. Add the watermelon juice to the tea to help it further cool down before adding to a pitcher filled with ice.
Garnish with fresh mint if desired! Mint is actually a great flavor to add too, you can muddle some mint in the bottom of the glass or pitcher for a watermelon mint green tea experience.
Enjoy it immediately once you put it over ice. If you want to serve at a later time, refrigerate the watermelon green tea without ice until ready to serve. Then add ice right before serving.
Next time you’re in the mood for a refreshing iced tea drink, I hope you’ll give this one a try! Enjoy!

Storage Instructions
Store leftover tea in an airtight container such as a mason jar in the fridge for up to 3 days. Be sure to remove any ice before storing to avoid your tea getting watered down.
Additions and Substitutions
Some recipes call for lime juice or lemon juice, but I’ve found that it’s not needed. This recipe might be of help.
