I love fun freezer finds at Trader Joe’s! I started getting these frozen salmon burgers a few months ago and they are now a regular in our meal rotation. They come pre-portioned and uncooked, with 4 per package. You have several options for cooking directly from frozen but I prefer using the oven as you get the the least amount of mess and you don’t have to use any additional oil. I like to pair them with this quick and easy slaw on a burger bun and call it dinner.

WHAT’S IN TRADER JOE’S SALMON BURGERS?

The burgers come individually wrapped and portioned in a vacuum-sealed wrapper that easily rips open. You will get 4 burgers per box for $7.49. According to the Trader Joe’s website, they are made from wild-caught Alaskan pink salmon. In addition to salmon, they contain tapioca syrup, mirepoix powder (a mixture of onion, carrot and celery), sugar, cornstarch, salt, onion powder, sunflower oil, dextrose, an antioxidant blend (for freshness) including rosemary extract, tocopherols and ascorbic acid.

ARE TRADER JOE’S SALMON BURGERS HEALTHY?

As mentioned above, there are some additives included such as yeast extract, maltodextrin, and carrageenan. So, they could be healthier, but when I need a quick meal, I have no complaints with this fairly short ingredients list. Some noteworthy nutritional information (per burger, based on a 2,000-calorie diet) includes 100 calories, 15g of protein, 330mg of sodium, 20mg of cholesterol, and 1g of sugar. Not bad!

WHAT DO TRADER JOE’S FROZEN SALMON BURGERS TASTE LIKE?

These burgers have a neutral seasoning and you shouldn’t need to add any extra salt to the meat. They have a mild fish flavor, and nice, crispy edges when cooked in a pan.

HOW TO MAKE TRADER JOE’S SALMON BURGERS

There are four cooking options to make these burgers: stovetop, oven, microwave or grill. I prefer making these either on the stovetop or in the oven. The stovetop method is good because you get nice golden edges, but then you have to deal with splatter and use a little oil. I mostly cook these in the oven for this reason.

Just place the frozen burgers on a baking sheet lined with parchment or foil. Bake in a 400F oven for 9-11 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 160F when measured by a meat thermometer.

WHAT TO SERVE WITH TRADER JOE’S SALMON BURGERS

If you’re looking for something to serve with these salmon burgers from Trader Joe’s, look no further than this super easy, saucy little slaw.

lemon caper slaw

CREAMY LEMON CAPER SLAW

INGREDIENTS:

  • Iceberg lettuce or green cabbage
  • Thinly sliced yellow onion
  • Mayo
  • Lemon juice and zest
  • Salt – any salt will do, such as sea salt, table salt or kosher salt
  • Pepper
  • Fresh dill
  • Capers (optional)

To make this lemon caper slaw simply combine all of the ingredients in a bowl and set it aside until ready to use. It’s that easy! You can definitely leave out the capers and still have a delicious, flavorful burger topping. I’ve had it both ways and both are great. Capers just add a little extra punch!

Serve salmon burgers on a brioche or gluten-free bun from Trader Joe’s and dinner is served!

  1. I love this idea. I added pickles to the slaw instead of capers, and used the TJ’s ranch style seasoning along with dill. The only reason why I won’t repeat is that I can’t get over the quality of the TJ salmon burgers… they are greyish and just don’t taste the same as wild caught fresh salmon! I’ve tried making my own salmon burgers and freezing. It’s an effort but they last a long time. But it’s difficult to get salmon to stay in one piece when you mash into a burger, so I had to use bread crumbs. Not sure about a better method!
