Trader Joe’s Acai Bowl
I love Trader Joe’s Acai! There’s no added sugar and it’s perfectly portioned for the perfect acai bowl.
I’ve been eating smoothies and acai bowls almost everyday lately. They’re so easy, tasty and healthy! I like knowing I’ve already had a variety of fruit and since I usually add spinach, a veggie before I even have lunch. To make my acai bowl, I use Trader Joe’s acai packets, frozen berries, peanut butter, dates and oat milk. And don’t forget a little handful of spinach. You won’t even know it’s there! Let’s make it!

Trader Joes’ acai packets
The acai packets from Trader Joe’s look like this. You get 4 packets per bag and it costs $4.49. The thing I appreciate most about their acai is there is no added sugar. Everywhere else that I’ve seen frozen acai has added sugar. You can of course use any acai you like, I just prefer Trader Joe’s!
What is acai?
Acai is a type of berry found in South American rainforests. It’s a superfood with a wide variety of health benefits like antioxidants, fiber, heart healthy fats and calcium. Acai is typically sold frozen and pureed here in the US because of the berries’ extremely short shelf life.
What does it taste like?
Acai is a tad tart with a sort of watery taste. Aside from that, I really just get a general fruit berry taste. It pairs well with other berries and I often use cherries and peaches with it as well.
How to use Trader Joe’s frozen acai packets
To use an acai packet, run the packet under warm water for a few moments. I usually try to break the puree up a little bit while it’s still in the packet.
Next I use kitchen shears to snip an opening cross-wise and length-wise on one side of the packet, then dump into the blender. If there are still large chunks, I use the tip of the shears to “stab” the acai into smaller pieces. Honestly, not the most glamorous way to do this but I don’t want to dirty a cutting board to cut it into chunks which you could do if you want to avoid this act of barbarianism 🙂
