Rose Milk Tea Recipe

Just 5 simple ingredients you have control over when you make your own milk tea at home. You can also swap out the whole milk for your favorite plant-based milk if you prefer.

  • Black tea bags – While some recipes allow for the use of green tea for a rose milk tea latte, I have found that black tea works best with the flavor of rose.
  • Sugar – I used granulated sugar but you could also use brown sugar.
  • Milk – I use whole milk for this recipe, but non-dairy milks such as oat milk, almond milk, and coconut milk taste great as well.
  • Rose water
  • Tapioca pearls
  • Dried rose petals – Use extra petals to make rose simple syrup or a rose tea latte!

How to make rose milk tea

Brew black tea and rose petals

Steep the black tea and rose petals for 5 minutes for a strong tea flavor without bitterness. Add the sugar, taste, and add more depending on your desired level of sweetness. Add the milk and rose water once the sugar is dissolved and place the tea in the refrigerator while you prepare the boba.

Make the boba pearls

Make your tapioca pearls based on the package instructions of your specific product. Generally, you will slowly add the tapioca pearls to a pot of boiling water and stir lightly. A general rule is to use 10 cups of water for 1 cup of pearls. Once the pearls float, cover the pot and cook over medium heat for 3-5 minutes. Then, turn off the heat and simmer for another 2-5 minutes, depending on your tastes. If you like your boba to be more tender, go with the longer cooking time. Use a mesh sieve or strainer to filter out the hot water into the sink.

Prepare the tea

To prepare your delicious cup of rose milk tea:

Add the pearls to the bottom of your glasses and fill each glass with ice. Pour over the brewed tea mixture and enjoy! I love my new boba travel cup! And it conveniently comes with its own boba straw as well. 🙂

Frequently asked questions

Is there caffeine in Rose Milk Tea?

Yes, this recipe contains caffeine if you use regular black tea. you can make this caffeine-free by using decaf black tea. Just be aware that even decaf teas contain a small amount of caffeine.

Can I make this without the rose petals?

You can still impart rose flavor without using rose petals. Rose water is another option to add rose flavor without using the petals.

Can I substitute loose black tea leaves for tea bags?

Yes. A general rule when substituting tea bags with loose leaf tea is to measure out a similar amount of loose tea as would be in a bag of tea. This works out to about one teaspoon of tea per cup of water. If using loose leaf tea, be sure to use a tea infuser. The specific steep time may vary depending on the type of tea you are using.

Is Rose Milk Tea healthy?

I know the definition of healthy may differ from person to person but I consider this a relatively healthy drink. The health benefits of rose and tea are well documented. Plus you’re making this at home with whole ingredients and you can reduce the amount of sugar if that is a concern for you.

Storage Instructions
