What’s in a matcha rose latte?

Ingredients you’ll need

  • matcha green tea powder
  • dried rose petals
  • sugar – brown is my favorite, but regular granulated or cane sugar, simple syrup, honey or maple syrup work too
  • milk – you can use whole milk, almond milk or any other dairy-free alternative milk you enjoy
  • water

Should I use ceremonial grade matcha?

You can use ceremonial grade or culinary grade matcha for drinks. I like to use ceremonial as I find it usually has a better flavor and is less bitter, the color is usually brighter too which I like 🙂

Helpful equipment for making tea matcha lattes at home

Mesh strainer – you will need to strain the rose petals from the matcha and a small mesh strainer like this works great. I use mine ALL THE TIME for making drinks like this as well as flavored syrups and homemade juices. I love the compact size and the little handles on the edge that allow you to secure it on so many different-sized containers/bowls.

Bamboo whisk – while I am usually not a fan of single-purpose gadgets, as an avid matcha drinker, a bamboo whisk is a must for me. It’s the easiest way to rid your matcha drink of lumps and its cute.

Milk frother – when I want a hot matcha latte (or any hot latte for that matter), frothing the milk is just one small way to make a homemade latte feel special. It’s certainly not a requirement but it’s a fun thing to have and I use mine a lot.

How to make a matcha rose latte

Start by boiling water in a small pot or electric kettle. Then add the matcha powder to the bottom of your drinking glass if it has a wide enough mouth for your hand to fit through. If not, put the matcha in a large liquid measuring cup. Add the hot water to the matcha and whisk until lump-free. Then add the rose petals, stir to submerge them then let steep for 5 minutes.

Strain out the rose petals and return the rose matcha water to your drink glass. Then add your sweetener of choice.

If you are making an iced rose matcha, add the ice cubes at this time. If you’re making it hot, just heat and froth your milk and add to the matcha.

Back to an iced drink– combine milk with matcha rose mixture over ice, stir and enjoy your homemade creamy matcha latte!
