Easy Lavender Matcha Latte Recipe (Hot or Iced)
A Lavender Matcha Latte is a delicious way to get in some of those magical green tea antioxidants! You will need matcha, lavender flowers, sugar, water and milk to make this. It just as good as Starbucks and it’s super easy to make!
If you are a matcha lover like me you might sometimes want a little variation to throw in the mix (such as this delicious Rose Matcha Latte). Enter lavender syrup for a Lavender Matcha Latte! Matcha and lavender go so well together–Lavender syrup adds sweet floral notes that pair beautifully with that earthy matcha flavor we love. All you need is 4 ingredients and about 20 minutes! We are going to make our own lavender syrup, and will have some left over for future lattes 🙂 I gotchu!

What does a matcha lavender latte taste like?
If you aren’t familiar with the flavor of matcha–it is similar to regular green tea but more intense and earthy, some might even say grassy (but in a good way). This is why it pairs so well with a little sugar and cream, these balance out that earthy taste. Lavender, as you can imagine has a floral flavor, which in order to enjoy lavender without feeling like your munching on straight up flowers it needs to be paired with something sweet and is even better with bold flavors, like matcha! And also coffee! So it’s like a sweet & creamy bold green tea with a hint of sweet + floral notes for a refreshing balance of flavor.
Ingredients
Lavender Matcha Latte
For the lavender syrup:
- Dried lavender flowers (affiliate link): make sure to get food-grade lavender.
- Granulated sugar
- Water
For the matcha latte:
- Matcha green tea powder (affiliate link)
- Milk – I like to use oat milk or skim milk, use what you like!
- Water – we use a tiny bit of hot water to blend the matcha and remove lumps.
- Lavender syrup
- Ice – if making an iced latte. You can just as easily make this drink hot if you’d like. Just add hot milk instead!
Do I need to use ceremonial grade or culinary grade matcha for a latte?
You really can use either one. Both are safe to eat. And in the past I used culinary grade for drinks. However, over time, I have noticed a difference in flavor between the two and I only use ceremonial matcha for drinks now. Culinary grade is fine for baking though. What’s the difference? Ceremonial grade is noticeably less bitter, and has a brighter green color which is nice to look at but isn’t why I prefer it. It’s all about the taste! And ceremonial just has the best flavor, in my opinion.
How to make a lavender matcha latte in 3 easy steps
1. Make lavender simple syrup
You can also purchase lavender syrup (affiliate link) but it’s pretty easy to make and worth it if it’s something you like and think you might continue to use it. It’s also great in a coffee latte! I already have a recipe up for this syrup but am including the instructions here for a smaller batch. Feel free to double the recipe here or follow the instructions in this post to make your syrup.
To make it, combine sugar, water and lavender flowers in a sauce pan over medium heat. As soon as the syrup comes to a boil, turn heat down to maintain a simmer, then cook for an additional 5-7 minutes.
Strain out the lavender flowers and store the syrup in a small jar/mason jar for up to two weeks.
2. Whisk matcha with hot water & add syrup
Now that your syrup is ready, let’s make a latte! Add matcha to your drinking glass. You will want one with a mouth wide enough to get you hand in there to whisk out all those lumps.
Add a small amount of hot water (about 1 tbsp) and whisk until no lumps remain. A matcha whisk (affiliate link) is the best way to get a lump-free latte.
Then add the lavender syrup. I use a scant tablespoon, but sweeten to your liking. Just keep in mind, you will have a stronger lavender flavor as you add more flavor.
3. Add milk & ice
You can use regular milk, creamy oat milk, soy milk, coconut milk or any other type of milk you like. If you want a little foam, you can froth the milk using a hand-held milk frother. Stir and enjoy!
To make a hot matcha latte
Thankfully, you don’t need to use a different method to make this drink hot! Follow all the steps up to adding the milk, then just warm your milk, froth if desired and add to your whisked matcha mixture. And of course, no need to add ice 🙂

- When the mixture comes to a boil, reduce heat to maintain a simmer and cook for about 5 more minutes.
- Strain the syrup through a mesh sieve to remove lavender. Store syrup in a jar in the fridge and enjoy for up to 2 weeks.
Lavender Matcha Latte Instructions
- Add matcha to a wide-mouthed drinking glass or mug.
- Add 2 tbsp hot water and use a matcha whisk and whisk until smooth. Then add lavender syrup and whisk again.
- Fill the cup with ice, then add milk. Stir and enjoy!
Notes
To make this drink hot – Add hot milk to the latte at the same step
Milk – feel free to use any milk you like. I prefer oat milk or skim milk.
Matcha – if you missed it in the post– you don’t have to use ceremonial grade matcha. Culinary grade is ok to use in a matcha latte, but has a more bitter taste and not as vibrant of a color. But it still makes a decent latte!
