Iced Peppermint Mocha
Iced Peppermint Mocha made at home that’s just as good as Starbucks? Sign me up! We can make this a hot mocha just as easily so instructions are included for both!
The peppermint mocha from Starbucks was the first coffee drink that I ever loved. I started getting them in high school and the feeling of sipping on a warm peppermint mocha on a cool wintry day is one I can still very much appreciate. However, as I’ve gotten older, I almost always prefer my coffee drinks over ice. Unless it’s practically snowing, I’m probably going to want an iced peppermint mocha instead of a hot one. So let’s talk about the ingredients you’ll need and how to make it!

Making an iced peppermint mocha at home
I am assuming you might want those extras on your homemade peppermint mocha like whipped topping and chocolate shavings so I will be including the directions for making those. If you don’t want the toppings, just skip step 1!
Step 1
Make whipped cream! Best practice for making homemade whipped cream includes chilling the bowl and beaters you plan to mix with. Then simple pour the heavy whipping cream in the bowl and beat with an electric hand mixer until stiff peaks form. Set aside in the refrigerator until ready to use.
If you feel like getting a little more fancy, you can add a few teaspoons of the mint simple syrup to the whipping cream before beating to make peppermint whipped cream!
Step 2
Brew extra strong coffee in a french press. For an iced peppermint mocha, we brew extra strong coffee with a small amount of water. This is the key to making iced coffee drinks at home. The ice will add the extra water needed to balance everything out without the drink tasting watered down.
You can also use a shot of espresso in place of the coffee in this recipe.
Step 3
Mix in simple syrup, cocoa powder, vanilla and salt. A mini whisk is super helpful for mixing up individual drinks like these. They also make a great stocking stuffer for the foodies in your life!
Step 4
Pour in milk and add ice.
Step 5
Top with your desired toppings and enjoy!
Make this drink hot instead of iced
You can make a hot peppermint mocha just as easily. Just brew the coffee with a full cup of water, skip the iced and warm/froth your milk before adding it in. Everything else remains the same. Easy!
If that’s you, the instructions are essentially the same, except you will want to warm your milk and froth it for the foamy effect before pouring in over the coffee/syrup/cocoa mixture. Easy peasy!
