Homemade Feta Tzatziki Sauce Recipe
Tzatziki sauce is one of the reasons I love Greek food and this version with feta and fresh herbs really hits the spot. It’s easy and you can use it in SO many different ways. Feta Tzatziki Sauce is just the perfect light, summer sauce for easy appetizers, meals, and more!
This has been the summer of wraps, sandwiches, and pasta salad. It’s hot and I want minimal effort in the kitchen and minimal stove/oven action.
Of all of the delicious dips and sauces I’ve made, this little twist on classic tzatziki sauce is definitely a winner. It is amazing on wraps, as a side with greek chicken salad with some pita bread, and just for snacking on with veggies, chips and/or pita chips. It is, of course, super easy to just buy a feta dip or cucumber sauce at the grocery store but it’s almost just as easy to make it yourself.
The benefits of making tzatziki sauce yourself: you can make as much as you want/need for way less money AND there are no weird food additives to worry about (since when did xanthan gum belong in sauces?)! Let’s make it!

Ingredients for feta tzatziki sauce
- plain greek yogurt – for the best taste, use full-fat greek yogurt. But you can of course use a lower-fat version if you really want/need to!
- cucumber – I prefer english cucumbers in general but recommend removing most of the peel no matter which type of cucumber you use
- red onion
- fresh dill
- lemon juice and zest
- fresh garlic
- feta cheese
- kosher salt
- black pepper
Technically feta is optional, but this is feta tzatziki after all. ? Just know that if you want to, you can leave it out and still make this a delicious authentic tzatziki recipe! You may just want to add a touch more salt.
How to make it
So you basically are just throwing everything in a bowl and mixing it up but…
Actually one little adjustment for best results – put the onions and cucumber in the bowl first with lemon juice, zest, salt, and pepper and stir to combine. Let that marry for a little bit while you chop the dill then add everything else in and stir to combine.
Annd, you really need to let the whole thing rest in the fridge for at least 30 minutes before serving. The yogurt needs a little time to absorb all those yummy flavors.
Make any salt/pepper/dill adjustments after letting the mixture sit for 30 minutes!
I think the sauce gets better when it sits overnight so it’s perfect for whipping up ahead of time.
Is tzatziki sauce healthy?
