Crescent Roll Taco Ring with Chicken
A crescent roll taco ring fulfills so many dinnertime wishes: super easy, basic ingredients, and crowd-pleasing (i.e. tastes amazing). I think most things wrapped in a crescent roll do though.
I originally heard about taco rings not too long ago when a coworker described them to me but I feel like this is kind of a retro thing? It’s originally a Pillsbury recipe but I’ve done my own thing with it here. My recipe includes ground chicken, refried beans and a tasty blend of taco-esque herbs and spices. I’m sure it’s equally as tasty as the original recipe and every bit as easy to make!

INGREDIENTS
CRESCENT ROLL TACO RING
- Crescent rolls!
- Ground chicken or turkey
- Canned green chiles
- Refried beans
- Seasoning: garlic powder, paprika, cumin, chili powder, cayenne, oregano, salt & pepper
What to serve with a Crescent Roll Taco Ring
That’s it for the actual taco ring part but it’s best served with some condiments and a side salad. For the salad, I kept it real simple—just romaine, black olives, tomatoes and avocado. I dressed it with my 2-ingredient chipotle aioli and lime juice.
There is a vast array of condiments you could play around with I’m sure but I just went with sour cream, salsa and pickled jalapeños and it was perfect for us.
How to make a crescent roll taco ring
This part is fun! But you want to make sure you set yourself up for success so I want to point out a few important things before we talk about the assembly process.
Equipment
Baking sheet
The first thing you want to think about is the baking sheet. It needs to be large enough to fit the taco ring. I used a 13 x 18 sheet and it just fit so don’t go any smaller than that.
Five-inch diameter bowl
You need to find a bowl that is about 5 inches in diameter to use as your guide for making a perfect circle in the center of the ring. Slightly smaller than 5 inches is fine.
Parchment paper
This is important if you plan to transfer the taco ring to a serving platter. It will make it easy to just lift it right off the sheet and onto your platter. If you are planning to serve it directly from the baking sheet, you don’t have to use parchment.
Assembling the crescent rolls to form a ring
Now to the fun part! Place your bowl in the center of the baking sheet.
Unroll both cans of crescent rolls and lay them out so they are ready for you to grab while assembling.
Arrange the triangles in a concentric circle around the bowl overlapping each time you lay down a new triangle of dough. This will create a sun shape around the bowl. It’s very important that each triangle overlaps so you have a sturdy ring around the center to hold in the taco fillings.
Once you’ve placed all the crescent rolls around the bowl, remove the bowl and gently press around the circle to create a lipped edge around the center of the circle. This will help keep the filling from spilling as you lay fill the ring.
Spread the refried beans in an even layer around the center of the circle. You can spread some up onto the “rays” if you need to to make it fit. Then spoon the taco mixture onto the bean layer. Pile it as high as you can! You’re going to be wrapping the rays up and over the filling to hold it in so don’t worry if you think it seems too full. That’s how you want it.
Gently lift each “ray”, fold them over the ring and press it against the center of the ring, pressing and smoothing each tip of a ray into the center of the circle.
Now it’s ready to bake! If you’re feeling fancy, this is a good time to do an egg wash to ensure a lovely golden brown crust. Simply beat one egg with a two tablespoons of milk and brush evenly on all parts of the dough.
