Ingredients for cinnamon apple compote
The ingredients for this compote recipe are pretty basic! I usually have most of these on hand, hence, I make it all the time! Especially during the fall months when apples and cinnamon just feel right 🙂
- Apples – I typically use Fuji or Gala apples
- Maple syrup – you can also use agave nectar or regular sugar
- Lemon juice
- Ground cinnamon
- Ground nutmeg
- Salt
- Water
How to make this cinnamon apple compote
Dice apple into small pieces and add to a pot with maple syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, lemon juice and water.
Cook the mixture over medium heat, covered, for about 15 minutes; stirring occasionally. Keep an eye on it– if it gets too hot or all the liquid is cooked away and the apples aren’t soft yet, add more water by the tablespoon and reduce heat a touch.
Store the finished compote in a glass jar in the refrigerator and enjoy for up to one week.
