How to make cardamom simple syrup

Start by using a mortar & pestle to break open the cardamom pods. You just want most all of them cracked open. You are grinding them into a powder or anything.

If you don’t have a mortar & pestle, you can use a meat pounder or even a small, but heavy pan (like cast iron) to do this.

Combine the cardamom pods, seeds, sugar and water in a small pot.

Cook over medium heat until the mixture just comes to a boil. Reduce heat to low and stir, cook until sugar is fully dissolved. This should only take a minute or two more, if any.

Allow the syrup to cool and steep with the cardamom pods off the heat for an hour after cooking. Then strain the syrup through a mesh sieve to remove cardamom pods and seeds.

Store syrup in a glass jar for up to 3 weeks.

Try making a cardamom latte or coffee

This syrup might just be my new favorite for coffee. The spicy and fragrant flavor is just perfect with bold coffee and creamy milk. Add 1-2 tbsp to a cup of coffee with warmed/frothed milk or make it iced!
